The Potomac Nationals honored two of the area's top high school athletes Sunday at their 15th-annual Hot Stove Banquet and Silent Auction. Brittany Black was named the Potomac Nationals High School Softball Player of the Year and Justin Weaver was named the Potomac Nationals High School Baseball Player of the Year.

As a senior pitcher at Battlefield High School, Black was 22-3 with 202 strikeouts and a 0.38 ERA. She also batted .477 with 33 RBI for the nationally ranked Bobcats. In four varsity seasons at Battlefield, Black was 49-13 with 570 strikeouts. The News & Messenger twice named Black their All-Area Player of the Year.

Recently, Black batted .250 with a home run and two doubles in her first college tournament in Henderson, Nevada. She also pitched in three tournament games for Chipola College (FL), tossing an eight-inning shutout against Northern Idaho in the finale.

As a junior pitcher at Brentsville District High School, Justin Weaver was 6-1 with a 1.64 ERA. He averaged more than eight strikeouts per game and tossed five complete games during the 2009 season. He also batted .304 with seven home runs and 25 RBI as a third baseman. The News & Messenger named Weaver first-team All-Northwestern District and All-Area Player of the Year.

The Tigers' ace will lead the defending Northwestern District champions in the 2010 season, which begins in March.
