Uncle Slam's Reading Program

SlamandKids Header Dates

  • First Base: Uncle Slam and representatives from the Potomac Nationals front office will come to your school and read a baseball themed book during a school-wide assembly. All students who participate will receive an official "Uncle Slam's Reading Program" bookmark.
*Note: Schools can also participate without an assembly. Uncle Slam can come for arrival/dismissal or be on the morning news or schools can simply just receive the bookmarks.

  • Second Base: Students will then be asked to read a total of four books and have their teacher or parent sign their bookmark, certifying that the books were completed. The bookmarks can then be turned in to the Potomac Nationals Ticket Office for two FREE tickets to a designated Potomac Nationals Game. The exchange can be done on the day of the selected game or in advance.

  • Third Base: Select your school's designated "Reading Day" and have all students attend the game on that day. 2018 Reading Days are: Sunday, April 22nd at 1:05pm (Harry Potter Day); Sunday, May 6th at 1:05pm (Superhero Day); Sunday, May 27th at 1:05pm (Dr. Seuss Day); and Friday, June 15th at 7:05pm (Jurassic Park Night). All participants in "Uncle Slam's Reading Program" will be invited to take part in a pre-game parade around the warning track honoring their commitment to reading.

  • Participate in the Bookmark Design Contest! The P-Nats are challenging all students to come up with their best design for the P-Nats Reading Club Bookmarks. The winner will receive a free MVP Kids Club Membership and a first pitch at their respective school's Reading Club game date. Submissions will be accepted no later than Wednesday, January 24th, 2018 at 5 pm. The winner will be chosen on Friday, January 26th, 2018. All designs should stay within the baseball/Potomac Nationals theme. Download the template here.
